The Breadwinner by Deborrah Ellis is about a girl living in Afghanistan named Parvana. Parvana and her family are living under the Tliban which is a group of extreamly religious people who run most of the counrty. The Taliban have very strict rules about everything for example, women and girls are not alowed to leave the house, and if they do they have to wear a barqua, which was something that covered every part of your body including your face. When the Taliban finds out that Parvanas father was educated they send him to prison, and when he does there is no one to make money or buy the groceries, so Parvana has to disguise herself as a boy to help her familys survivol. This was a really sad book, but I am gald that I read it because I learned a lot.

First They KIlled My Father: Mikito's Questions

1. Who would most likely be in this novel and why?
2. What was your favorite part of this book and why is this.
3. What was your fist reaction when you found out that the dad had died?
4. Do you think the ending could have been better or do you think that the ending was just right for the book?
5. Do you think that you would be able to last as long as she did in this book?

1. Im not really sure, I don't think that I know the characters well enough to say which one I am like the most. The only character that I know well is Loung and I don't think that I am like her because I probobly would not be as strong as she was thorough this whole expirience.
2. I think that my favorite part of the book was when they got to America because it was sort of when all of the bad stuff was over and when there was hope for once in the book.
3. I was not really suprised when they dad died since the book was caled "First The Killed My Father" but it was a sad part of the book.
4. I think that thier were a couple of questions in the end that were not answered but other than that I liked the way that this book ended.
5. Im not really sure, I would be really tired from the work, sad to be away from my family, mad at the Khemer Rouge, and hungry.
